The Atlanta Falcons have interviewed Matt Eberflus for their vacant defensive coordinator position, marking him as the seventh candidate since the firing of Jimmy Lake. Eberflus, who was recently let go as the head coach of the Chicago Bears, had a disappointing record of 14-32 over three seasons. Before his tenure in Chicago, he served as the Indianapolis Colts’ defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021, where his unit was known for a strong run defense and ranked in the top 10 for points allowed multiple times. Eberflus had previously built a solid defense at the University of Missouri.
Despite his experience, Eberflus faces criticism for his poor time management in a recent game and for not achieving significant defensive success with the Bears. His coaching philosophy relies on a 4-3 defense and zone coverage. While his approach may require adjustments to the roster, he is respected for his tough defensive strategies and could leverage lessons learned from his head coaching experience to succeed as a coordinator.
