Midnight Society, the game development studio behind the vertical extraction shooter DeadDrop, was shut down after three years, as confirmed by co-founder Brad Boice. The studio faced financial difficulties, leading to a sudden two-day notice for employees. The company was co-founded in 2021 by notable figures including popular streamer Guy Beahm (known as Dr. Disrespect). Controversy arose in June when Beahm was removed from the team due to allegations of inappropriate conduct with a minor, which many believed contributed to the studio’s struggles. Despite initial plans for a full game release in 2025, skepticism surrounded its potential success without Beahm’s involvement. After the closure, Beahm criticized the studio’s leadership and its handling of his dismissal. Fans and NFT investors expressed disappointment over the shutdown, mourning the loss of the game’s promising ideas and universe.
