A significant storm is currently impacting Southern California, leading to heavy rainfall and creating flash flood warnings, evacuation orders, and school closures. Particularly vulnerable burn scar areas in Los Angeles have been issued evacuation warnings, effective Thursday from 7 AM until at least 2 PM. The storm has already caused serious incidents, including a partial roof collapse at the Smart & Final Store in Azusa, with no injuries reported.
Additionally, large debris flows have closed Mulholland Drive due to roughly 8 inches of mud accumulation, but no injuries have occurred. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is working to ensure safety in the area, and they’ll keep certain roads closed during the storm. In Malibu, a landslide swept a fire station SUV into the sea, but firefighters escaped unharmed.
Sierra Madre has issued evacuation orders, advising residents who choose to remain to do so at their own risk, as emergency services may not be able to access them during hazardous conditions. City officials have stressed the importance of heeding these warnings as conditions worsen.
