The Arizona Diamondbacks have reportedly finalized a four-year contract extension with shortstop Geraldo Perdomo that covers the 2026-29 seasons, with a club option for a fifth year. The deal guarantees Perdomo $45 million and will buy out his last two arbitration years, as well as at least two free agency years, with an option for a third. Perdomo, who is represented by Republic Sports, received a $5 million signing bonus and will earn escalating salaries ranging from $5 million in 2026 to $13 million in 2029. If the D-backs exercise the fifth-year option, he will hit free agency at age 31.
Since his major league debut in 2021, Perdomo has solidified his role as Arizona’s shortstop, known for his strong defensive skills and discipline at the plate. Following a successful first half in the 2023 season, where he earned an All-Star nod, Perdomo experienced a decline in performance during the second half. He overcame a knee injury sustained early in the season and rebounded to hit .274 in his return, showcasing a solid on-base percentage.
While his offensive metrics indicate limitations—particularly in hard contact and exit speeds—Perdomo maintains a strong walk rate and low strikeout rate. He also excels in small ball tactics, leading the league in sacrifices and demonstrating efficiency on the base paths.
