The proposal for a new luxury hotel, the Inn at Altamont, in Paris Mountain is facing significant opposition from members of the Greenville County Council. District 22 Councillor Stephen Shaw and other council members have expressed concerns about the development’s timing, methods, and environmental impact. Activists, including Barbara Allen from the Save Paris Mountain Movement, are fighting to protect the area’s green spaces, pointing out issues like the lack of sewage infrastructure and potential harm to local water sources.
The developers, Devine Group, argue that the hotel will have a lower environmental impact compared to other projects and that they are collaborating with third-party groups to assess potential effects. However, council members believe that altering zoning regulations to allow for the hotel could lead to increased traffic, noise, and light pollution, stressing the need to preserve the natural environment. This issue will be discussed further in a council meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
