Royal Caribbean International announced the debut of its third icon-class cruise ship, Legend of the Seas, set to launch in July 2026. This 250,800-ton vessel will operate weekly cruises in the Western Mediterranean from Barcelona, visiting ports in France, Italy, and Spain. Unlike its predecessors, Legend of the Seas will also offer unique itineraries to destinations not previously featured in the icon class. After its Mediterranean season, it will move to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale for cruises to the Western and Southern Caribbean, including stops at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
The ship, formerly known as Icon 3, was intentionally named ‘Legend’ as a tribute to previous Royal Caribbean vessels, reflecting the company’s 50 years of innovation. Chief Marketing Officer Cara Wallace emphasized that this new naming approach serves as a homage to earlier ships. Though specific details about Legend of the Seas are limited, it is designed to provide high levels of guest satisfaction similar to the existing icon-class ships. Reservations for sailing on Legend of the Seas will open on February 20, with early access for loyalty program members.
Overall, this new ship aims to enhance the experience of families and adventurers in both Europe and the Caribbean, continuing Royal Caribbean’s legacy of innovation in cruising.
