The FBI’s Houston office reported the arrest of two teenage girls, aged 15 and 16, suspected of plotting a school attack involving a pipe bomb and a gun. Law enforcement acted swiftly, apprehending the girls shortly after receiving information about the threat, which was linked to an online communication between the students. One of the girls was from outside the school district and was arrested on unrelated charges.
This incident underscores the growing effectiveness of anonymous reporting systems (ARSS) in K-12 schools, which have been utilized by over 50% of schools in the U.S. to receive tips about potential threats. A recent survey indicated that 9.8% of 18,000 tips over four years related to firearm threats, primarily concerning school shootings.
In light of these arrests, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office emphasized their commitment to school safety and announced that additional security measures would be implemented. The FBI noted that their focus is on community protection and collaboration with local authorities. This event follows a separate case involving another teenager accused of planning a mass shooting at a high school in Indiana.
