Business Insider (BI) obtained internal documents revealing the teams most affected by recent job cuts at Meta, which resulted in 3,115 employees losing their jobs—about 5% of the workforce. The cuts were particularly impactful in Tom Allison’s Facebook team, which saw 335 job losses. Other significantly affected groups included the Horizon team focused on virtual reality, losing 244 positions, and Carmine Arabia’s team, which cut 195 roles. Additional reductions impacted roles linked to data center strategy (186 positions) and engineering for monetization (180 positions). Despite these layoffs, Meta plans to accelerate hiring for machine learning engineers. The internal documents are meant to aid affected employees in decision-making about segregation agreements following the layoffs. Meta did not provide comments on the layoffs, which coincide with the company’s restructuring in the Metaverse sector as it seeks to define its future direction.
