The US Social Security Agency (SSA) is nearing the end of its February payment schedule for various benefits, including retirement, disability, survivor payments, and Supplementary Security Income (SSI). Most payments for these programs were distributed throughout February, with significant payments made on February 19th. The final batch of retirement, disability, and survivor payments will be issued at the end of the month, and SSI payments for March will be sent out a day early on February 28th due to March 1 falling on a weekend.
In 2025, the maximum SSI monthly allowance increased to $967 for individuals, $1,450 for eligible couples, and $484 for essential persons due to a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA). SSI differs from other Social Security programs as it is needs-based, helping those with little or no income; approximately 7.4 million Americans received SSI benefits as of January 2025.
For non-SSI beneficiaries, Social Security payments are scheduled based on birth dates, with specific Wednesdays designated for payments. As noted, some long-term beneficiaries follow a different schedule, receiving their payments consistently on the third day of the month. Additionally, individuals receiving both SSI and regular Social Security benefits will see their SSI paid at the beginning of the month and regular benefits on the third.
