The death of 20-year-old Caleb Wilson, a Southern University mechanical engineering student and member of the marching band, is being investigated by local law enforcement as a potential case of fraternity hazing. Wilson died on February 27, and university officials confirmed that allegations involving the Omega Psi Phi fraternity are being examined. Wilson’s family described him as an extraordinary talent with a bright future, actively involved in the marching band’s recent Super Bowl performance. In remembrance, band members dedicated a performance to him during Mardi Gras. Following his death, Southern University suspended recruitment for all clubs, particularly Greek life, and announced its own internal inquiry into the hazing allegations. The university emphasized the importance of haze prevention training, especially in light of past incidents of hazing-related deaths in Louisiana.
