In a unique operation, the Alaska Army National Guard’s HH-60M helicopter successfully executed a “Pinnacle Landing” on a moving train during the Arctic Medic 2025 exercise, held in Alaska. This special operations medical exercise involved various military and law enforcement teams, emphasizing collaboration and training in cold climate conditions.
The crew’s ability to adjust their landing technique to accommodate the train’s flatbed car was praised by Colonel Manuel Menendez of the Army’s Special Operations Command. The landing involved keeping the helicopter’s rear wheels elevated, as there wasn’t enough room for a traditional landing due to the train’s structure.
Following the helicopter’s departure, the train resumed its simulated evacuation, which was part of an assessment of transporting chemically or biologically contaminated patients. The flight crew, comprised of experienced personnel, highlighted the importance of their training in extreme conditions and the ongoing effort to strengthen teamwork across different units.
