The spray, designed to darken skin pigmentation, is illegal for medicinal use in the UK, yet it is sold under cosmetic regulations that allow for less oversight. After inhaling the product, Eagle experienced difficulty breathing and was hospitalized.
Experts warn that these unregulated tanning products may contain toxic ingredients and can increase the risk of skin cancer, particularly when used alongside sunbeds. The BBC found that these nasal tanners can be easily purchased in salons and online, often with little to no safety information provided. Concerns continue to grow over their use among younger individuals, driven by social media marketing.
