Destiny 2 is undergoing significant changes under the codename “Frontiers,” introducing new content release models, revamped raids, next-gen armor, and a new portal system. Bungie is shifting from a single annual expansion to two medium expansions every six months, coupled with four major free updates each year. Each expansion will bring new story missions, gear, and innovative gameplay elements, including nonlinear campaigns and genre-blending mechanics.
Key features include a new “Portal” hub that simplifies navigation of activities, categorized into Solo Ops, Fireteam Ops, Flashpoint Ops, and Pinnacle Ops. The existing Gambit mode will not be integrated into the portal at launch. The endgame structure will now feature one raid and one dungeon released annually, with enhanced challenges and rewards.
A new Challenge Customization feature allows players to adjust the difficulty of PvE activities, resulting in better loot based on performance ratings. Armor and loot systems are being overhauled, increasing stat caps and introducing new armor archetypes and bonuses based on set completions. The update closes with an expectation of launching around mid-July, maintaining excitement within the Destiny 2 community.
