Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old Telemundo sports reporter from Kansas City, was recently upgraded to second-degree murder following his death while covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Local resident Danette Colbert, 48, has been charged with double murder in relation to his death. She was arrested shortly after Manzano’s demise for allegedly using his credit cards at various stores.
Security footage revealed that Manzano and Colbert entered their hotel rooms together but that she left alone afterwards. Colbert has a history of drug-related crimes and financial misdeeds involving other men. Autopsy results indicated that Manzano had a blood alcohol content of .232 and traces of Xanax, which he did not have a prescription for, leading authorities to suspect foul play. Investigators believe Colbert drugged him to incapacitate him.
Police have also apprehended Ricky White, an accomplice of Colbert, on various charges, including fraud and robbery. At the time of Manzano’s death, Colbert was already serving a 10-year suspension related to another crime. Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley stated he believes Colbert deliberately harmed Manzano, expressing a desire for her to remain incarcerated. Colbert is currently being held at Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
