Council member Matt Reinhart expressed a desire for the teens to enjoy their time while ensuring safety for both visitors and local residents. Following a recent shooting at the Daytona Beach Boardwalk that left two 19-year-olds dead, Reinhart is advocating for new regulations to manage large gatherings on the beach. Proposed measures include ordinances to limit such gatherings and a potential $500 fine for parents of troublesome minors, suggested by Councillor Danny Robbins. Additionally, the idea of implementing a curfew for young visitors has been discussed. Reinhart and county staff are exploring these options and plan to present their findings at a future meeting.
