Carroll County officials are addressing misinformation about the operation of Dix Dam and its impact during recent evacuations. Kentucky utility spokesperson Daniel Lowry stated that the dam’s drain gates were opened in a controlled manner since Friday, and the flow from Lake Herrington has decreased, allowing for the closing of the gates. Carrollton Mayor Rob Adams clarified that the release of water was planned, countering previous claims that the opening of ten gates was accidental, which had caused confusion.
Amid rising water levels, mandatory evacuations were ordered for several areas, including Prestonsville and Greensbottom. Mayor Adams acknowledged the initial misinformation and emphasized the importance of disseminating accurate updates. Emergency Management officials reported that the situation is serious, with unprecedented flooding expected along the Kentucky River, reaching a forecasted height of 57 feet. Residents needing evacuation assistance were encouraged to contact local authorities for support and shelter arrangements.
