Trevor Noah’s Day Zero Productions is collaborating with indie developer Anima Interactive and Cinereach to host a climate-themed video game competition named “Day Zero Games: Solarpunk Jam,” scheduled from April 22 to May 10, culminating in a $10,000 grand prize. The event invites global creators to develop video game prototypes that highlight climate visibility and envision a hopeful, optimistic future inspired by the solar punk movement. Participants will receive a narrative toolkit from Cinereach and insights from Good Energy to enhance their projects.
The competition also has support from organizations like the International Association of Game Developers, Black in Gaming Foundation, Latinx in Gaming, and Games for Change. This initiative follows a recent investment by Day Zero Productions in gaming startup Midsummer studios, reflecting Noah’s commitment to climate issues. The collaboration between Anima Interactive and Cinereach continues from last year’s “Just Play” event, aimed at exploring themes of justice in gaming. Leaders from the partnered organizations express excitement about fostering creativity and inspiring a brighter future through the competition.
