The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is set to close several interstate ramps near Hickman and I-35/80 starting May 5, impacting metro commuters over the summer. This construction will include adding a third lane in both directions between the university and Douglas, with closures lasting until August. Specifically, the northbound entrance ramp on Hickman Road and the northbound exit ramp on Douglas will be affected.
DOT has also recently closed Hickman’s southbound entrance and university exit ramp, which will remain closed until August as well. Construction engineer Frank Leon stated that they are progressing without significantly affecting traffic, with anticipated delays reported to be minimal—around two minutes. Although the closures will inconvenience many drivers, some commuters believe the improvements will be worth the wait.
