Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 will soon feature advanced hearing health capabilities, especially in the UK, following updated regulations. While the recent hardware updates included new AirPods models with USB-C, AirPods Pro 2 remain the focus for hearing aid functionalities due to their in-ear seals, which enhance sound isolation. The AirPods Pro 2 already offer a home hearing test feature, though this has been limited by regulations in some countries.
Apple plans to release these features in the UK shortly, aiming to improve the lives of users with mild to moderate hearing loss. The expected update may coincide with iOS 18 and new firmware for the AirPods. Although AirPods Pro 2 can serve as makeshift hearing aids, their battery life is shorter than traditional hearing aids, requiring regular charging. Nonetheless, this feature provides an alternative for those wishing to avoid the stigma associated with visible hearing aids. The rollout is anticipated in January or February 2024.
