Israel is set to receive four female soldiers, Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy, and Liri Albag, taken hostage by Hamas on Saturday. The decision comes after Hamas announced their release, although the inclusion of a civilian hostage, Abel Yehud, in the release was uncertain. Yehud is believed to be held by Palestinian Islamic Jihad and not Hamas. The four women were among seven soldiers abducted from the Nahal Oz military base during a brutal Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which led to significant Israeli casualties.
Three hostages have already been released under a ceasefire agreement that also entails the release of 90 Palestinian prisoners. The ceasefire is expected to last five weeks, during which a total of 30 Israeli hostages should be freed, alongside an ongoing release of Palestinian prisoners. Currently, 91 individuals remain held by Hamas after the initial attack. The terms of the ceasefire include a withdrawal of Israeli forces from parts of Gaza and increased humanitarian aid flow to the region. This is an ongoing story and will continue to develop.
