Apple CEO Tim Cook has teased an announcement for Wednesday, February 19th, which is expected to unveil the next generation of the iPhone SE, potentially dubbed the “iPhone 6e.” There have been discussions surrounding its naming convention, as Apple may move away from the traditional “Special Edition” label used since the SE’s introduction in 2016.
The new iPhone SE is rumored to feature a 6.1-inch display, marking a shift from the current 4.7-inch model. While the size increase is notable, thinner bezels will limit the overall physical dimensions. This new model will retain design elements from the iPhone 14, including aluminum and glass builds but will likely have a single lens rear camera. Notably, the iPhone SE 4 is set to feature an OLED display, moving away from LCD technology, and will eliminate the touch ID and home button, favoring Face ID instead.
In terms of connectivity, the device will transition to a USB-C port as part of Apple’s move away from the Lightning connector. The new iPhone is expected to be powered by the A18 chip, offering flagship performance at a lower price point, and will likely also support enhanced AI features due to increased RAM.
Storage options may begin at 128GB, as Apple phases out the 64GB baseline, and the camera is expected to feature a 48-megapixel wide lens similar to the one on the iPhone 16. Additional features could include a new in-house modem technology, improved battery life, and safety enhancements like Emergency SOS and collision detection.
Pricing for the iPhone SE 4 is anticipated to be under $500, with the current model starting at $429. Although the announcement is significant, it seems that Apple will not hold a special event but will instead distribute news via press releases. Customers can expect pre-orders to start shortly after the February 19th announcement.
