Sam Nordquist, a 24-year-old transgender man from Minnesota, was found dead in a field in Benton, New York, with authorities confirming he knew his assailants. Nordquist reportedly experienced months of severe physical and psychological abuse before his death, which is believed to have occurred in Ontario County before his body was moved to Yates County. Five individuals have been charged with second-degree murder: Patrick A. Goodwin, Jennifer A. Quijano, Kyle R. Sage, Emily Jean Motyka, and Precious N. Arzuaga. The New York State Police and Ontario County District Attorney stated there is currently no evidence indicating that the murder is a hate crime, despite questions surrounding the motives. All five suspects are in custody without bail. A GoFundMe has been established to assist Nordquist’s family with travel expenses, and authorities are seeking additional information from the public regarding the case.
