The Gigian group, led by 34-year-old Jack Lasota, is implicated in a series of murders across the U.S., leading to multiple arrests. Lasota, who identifies as a trans woman and has a background in computer science, has been charged alongside other members, including Michelle Zaico and Daniel Blanc, with trespassing and obstruction. Authorities are investigating at least six murders linked to the group, including a double homicide in Pennsylvania and a violent encounter in California.
Lasota developed her rationalist beliefs after moving to the San Francisco area and began blogging about various topics, eventually veering into unorthodox theories. Despite having a history of protests, Lasota was reported dead in a fake obituary following an incident in 2022. However, she reemerged living in various locations, including vehicles and real estate owned by others.
The group’s activities escalated, culminating in violent incidents, including the stabbing of a landlord named Curtis Lind, who had tried to evict them. Following this, both of Lind’s parents were murdered, and Lasota was arrested for obstructing law enforcement during the investigation.
By early 2023, violence surged with the killings of a Border Patrol agent and further criminal activities linked to group members. Lasota and two others were eventually arrested in Maryland after being spotted camping illegally. All three face multiple charges, including weapons violations, and have been denied bail. Lasota’s lawyer declined to comment on the situation, referring to a previous statement.
