Aaron Rodgers, the four-time NFL MVP, is moving closer to his third team visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday. He met with the Steelers’ coach, and a source suggested that an agreement could potentially be reached the same day. Although Rodgers initially preferred to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, the team has opted to let their 2024 first-round pick, JJ McCarthy, compete for the starting position instead. The New York Giants have also expressed interest in Rodgers, alongside the possibility of him re-signing with the Jets.
Rodgers, ranked as the No. 23 overall player on the Athletics’ updated Top 150 free agent list, could become the Steelers’ starting quarterback if he signs. The Steelers recently signed Mason Rudolph to a two-year contract and currently have only Skylar Thompson on the roster.
Rodgers, who turned 41 in December, completed a disappointing season with the Jets, finishing with a 5-12 record after significant injuries hampered his performance. Although he was expected to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl contention following his trade in April 2023, his season was marred by injury setbacks, including a torn Achilles and hamstring issues. Despite these challenges, he ended the season on a high note, throwing four touchdown passes in a victory over the Miami Dolphins and becoming only the fifth quarterback in NFL history to reach 500 career touchdown passes, ultimately finishing with 503 and ranking seventh in passing yards with 62,952.
