“Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves” has launched in early access, and testing for input lag has already commenced. Expert Nigel ‘Noodallls’ Woodall conducted tests across various platforms, including PS5, PS5 Pro, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Steam Decks, using his PhotoTransistor method.
The results indicate that the PS5 Pro has a latency of 79.29 ms (4.96 frames), making it one of the higher lag experiences among the tested systems. The regular PS5 showed only a slightly better latency at 79.14 ms (4.95 frames). The PS4 versions performed better, with the standard PS4 hitting 65.09 ms (4.07 frames) and the PS4 Pro at 60.9 ms (3.8 frames). However, the PS4 version lacks V-Sync, leading to tearing.
The lowest input lag was found when running the PS4 version on newer systems, with the PS5 producing 51.88 ms (3.24 frames) and the PS5 Pro achieving 46.4 ms (2.9 frames). The Xbox Series X and S showed similar performance to the PS4, with latencies around 60.51 ms (3.78 frames). Steam Deck results varied slightly depending on V-Sync settings.
Overall, the PS5 version exhibited higher latency compared to others but aligned with trends observed in recent fighting games. Further tests on standard PCs and other platforms will be released as they become available.
