Both Nadine and Bob Menendez maintained their innocence regarding the bribery charges. Prosecutors claimed that Nadine played a crucial role in facilitating communication between her husband and the businessmen, who sought political favors. Bob Menendez resigned from the Senate after his conviction last year, where he had previously served as chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The couple’s legal troubles began after their romantic relationship took off in 2018, raising suspicions of bribery linked to their financial circumstances.
