After nearly three years, the Whale Bar and Grill in Fort Myers Beach is set to reopen this fall, with construction currently underway. Owners Mike and Dawn Miller, who took over just before Hurricane Ian devastated the restaurant, expressed their emotional attachment to it and the challenges they faced navigating permits and meetings for the rebuild. The new establishment will feature a larger space over three stories, including a rooftop tiki bar, live music areas, and a “Buckeye Bar” honoring the owner’s favorite soccer team. The Millers aim to not only restore this local staple but also support the growth of small businesses in the area. Once operational, the new Whale Bar will provide 75 jobs and will continue to host live music nightly.
