Los Angeles police released video footage of an incident involving Gillian Lauren, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Schliner, who is accused of pointing and firing a gun at an officer earlier this month. The LAPD was trying to track down three suspects involved in a hit-and-run when they encountered Lauren in her backyard with a firearm.
Body camera and surveillance footage showed confusion as officers shouted at Lauren to drop the weapon. A neighbor’s 911 call indicated a shooting had occurred, mistakenly believing Lauren was shot by a suspect.
Lauren was later charged with attempted murder of a peace officer but was released on bail. The incident has sparked discussion about the justification of using a firearm for property defense. Police recovered a Glock 9mm handgun at the scene. Lauren, known for her memoir “Some Girls,” is set to appear in court at the end of the month.
The situation raises questions about the circumstances that led to the shooting and Lauren’s reaction to what she believed was an immediate threat.
